A Piece in Progress

ApproachingStorm36x48

It is a challenge to create a painting which is interesting to look at in all areas and at all distances, from 10 feet away to very close up. That is one of my goals.  This has not worked out to be an “impasto” piece as “Storm Break” is, which was my original intention. Impasto painting is laid on quickly, with much expressiveness and thickness to the paint.
This one has taken on another feel.  It is still quite expressive in the sky, but the sand I chose another route.  There are no shortcuts to the texture and layers of color I have created.  From a distance it looks tan, but when you look at the sand closely, you will see green, blue, areas of rust, tan.  A beautiful texture.
