“Through Light”

ThroughLight very small

“Through Light” is a second piece in which I drew my inspiration from a photograph I took as a storm over the Gulf was breaking up late one afternoon.

At one point the painting was veering off from the sense of peace I sought to portray.

I let it be for a while, studying it and then I re-approached it last week. That morning in an effort to put my mind in a peaceful state before I began painting, I looked in the Bible for a passage referring to light.

I found Psalm 18:28, which was what I sought to portray as I was striving to calm the sky, while still evoking the emotion of great change, as in dark to light or hope and of God’s light descending

down to earth, to individuals in times of need.

I deliberately merged the sky with the horizon with the use of white.

An analogy of God’s light reaching the earth.

The waves are there but they are smaller, gentler, quiet.

The light blue breaking through in the upper half is bright…again intentional.

I am referring to the vast chasm of emotion that exists from when we are

focused on God, light, love…which brings us joy, clarity, peace,

as opposed to the darkness of mind that often engulfs us in times of loss and despair.

God is always there waiting for us to come to Him.

The rewards are so great when we do.

Psalm 18:28

Lord You have brought light to my life;

My God, You light up my darkness.

In your strength I can crush an army;

With my God, I can scale any wall.

Merry Christmas.

  • Where there is darkness, let me shed light.
    Where there is despair, let me sow hope.
