My Greatest Teachers

Who would have thought

My greatest teachers would be

the frailty of my parents and the strength of my sons?

The rejection of family,

And closed doors of “friends.”

The deception and lies of those I thought to be sincere,

And sharp criticism of those that hold faults of their own.

Through rejection I have learned acceptance.

Through closed doors I have opened mine.

Lies of others have shown me how rare the truly honest are.

Criticism has taught me the value of tolerance.

Right and wrong, your way and mine…

This creates division.

Out of Darkness

Recognizing each others differences

Frailties and weaknesses, imperfections and faults…

All the while keeping one’s heart open

and focusing on the beauty and strength that is there as well….

This is love.

  • Margaret is a friend of my oldest daughter who has kept in touch with her since High School. When my daughter brought me Margaret’s book, VISIONS, I had no idea of the exceptional talent that Margaret possesses with her writing and painting. I was overwhelmed with the beauty of her poems which expressed so eloquently my own feelings. Margaret puts in words with such grace and vision to enable one to picture the meaning related to one’s own life. I am a teacher myself and her latest poem illustrates what life teaches us all, the ultimate gift, “love”.

  • As you move forward on your journey, Margaret, your poetry articulates so well the lessons learned from painful circumstances and relationships. That you are able to process the negative experience and find the blessing within it, tells me that you are truly becoming your higher self.
